Jew(ish) Cartoons: Drawing from the Collection

5 July - 16 September

Inspired by the comic book artists in residence programme, we have delved into the Museum’s collection to find a selection of Jew(ish) drawings, cartoons and caricatures illustrating humour and social critique dating back to the 18th century. For a contemporary take on these topics, we are excited to include the work of influential contemporary female comic artists and cartoonists.

The exhibition will feature works from our collection by Ralph Sallon, A. McLevy, Harry ‘Nero’ Blacker, Hans Jackson, Phineas May, Victor ‘Vicky’ Weisz and Mel Calman. Also featured are works from contemporary artists Dr Sarah Lightman, Corinne Pearlman, Karrie Fransman and Ella Baron.

An integral part of this exhibition is a studio for our comic book artists in residence. Artists include Taymah Anderson, Lucie Arnoux, Charlotte Bailey, Tom Berry, Matt Boyce, Tasreen Rahman, Zoom Rockman and Paul Shinn will be in the gallery creating new work inspired by the museum and visitors!

Artists are scheduled to be in residence Tuesday and Sunday, 8 July–16 September, 1–4pm (except for Saturday 8 September and Thursday 13 September). Follow their works using #AsterixInBritain
