Welcome:

Meet Jewish people living in Britain today through a pioneering multimedia display and discover the many ways there are of being Jewish – from the occasional bowl of chicken soup to the full Shabbat experience.

History:

Play the Great Migration board game, take part in Yiddish theatre karaoke or wander down a 19th-century East End street. In this gallery you can explore how and why Jews have come here from around the world and how they have become part of British life.

Judaism:

A Living Faith

Discover Judaism, its beliefs and traditions. Explore the Torah, try on a prayer shawl or design your own synagogue. Delve into the Jewish faith and enjoy treasures from around the world.

Bringing the story up-to-date, this gallery shows how the Jewish community in Britain continues to develop and how Jewish people play their part in arenas ranging from media and entertainment to welfare and social action.

The Holocaust Gallery

This unique gallery explores the terrible impact of Nazism,through the experiences of London-born Auschwitz survivor Leon Greenman OBE and other survivors who have made their home in Britain.

Changing Exhibitions

This space will house a dynamic/vibrant programme of changing exhibitions with high profile displays on a wide range of themes.

In addition, in the Jewish Museum you’ll be able to find:

  • A true hidden treasure – a medieval mikveh (a ritual bath), discovered by archaeologists in the City of London in 2002.
  • An education space providing a welcoming area for creative activities for schools, informal education and family events.
  • 100-seat auditorium for live events and performances and meeting room, both available for hire.
  • A research library providing an opportunity to consult a range of resources unique to the museum.
