East End Jew, Isaac Rosenberg, studied at the Slade School of Art alongside Paul Nash and Stanley Spencer and exhibited at the Whitechapel Gallery. But perhaps he is best known for his poems, many written while serving on the Western Front, including the seminal Break of Day in the Trenches, drafts of which are currently on display as part of our First World War exhibition.
