Always a highlight of the Museum calendar, the Martin Norton Annual Lecture will this year be given by jewellery expert Benjamin Zucker, on the subject of his new book on the life of Elihu Yale, founder of Yale University.
Benjamin Zucker will be speaking on his and Diana Scarisbrick’s recently released book, Elihu Yale: Merchant, Collector and Patron. The book chronicles the life of the founder of Yale University, who made his fortune trading in diamonds in late 17th and early 18th century India and London. Inspiration for the book and help in research came from the Norton family, as well as Edgar Samuel and Kenneth Rubens. Objects from the Jewish Museum London will be highlighted, as well as paintings and decorative arts from Yale’s enormous collection.
Benjamin Zucker is a third generation jeweller. He is president of Precious Stones Company in New York City. He graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School. He is the author of Gems & Jewels: A Connoiseur's Guide as well as seven other books on jewellery. He has also written 3 novels: Blue, Green, and White. He has sponsored the annual Martin Norton Lecture at the Jewish Museum.
